A hundred times every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life are based on the labors of others.
Albert Einstein

Knowledge has to be socialized to democratise power.
Don Jose Maria Arizmendiarrieta

Economists have become a plague as dangerous as rabbits, prickly pear or cane toads. Economists have become the cultural cane toads of Canberra, oozing over the landscape and endangering myriad indigenous species. Not only the economy but also mental health would be greatly improved if we could lift the fog of obfuscation on things economic.
The first step is to take economists from their pedestal and to see them as the curiosities they are. The first step to reducing their power is to reduce their legitimacy.
How is this to be achieved? First, economists' outpourings should, as a matter of principle, be met with laughter, derision, benign paternalism. They should cease to be employed as media commentators. In the long term they should cease to be hired. Let them be pensioned off and die out. Extinction is a worthy end for a profession whose brief is rotten to the core.

Dr. Evan Jones, Economics Department, University of Sydney

A Southern physician, Samuel Cartwright, argued that many of the slaves [in America] suffered from a form of mental illness, which he called 'drapetomania', diagnosed as the uncontrollable urge to escape from slavery. In the second half of the 20th-centruy, this illness, in the Third World, has usually been called 'communism'.
William Blum

...what history really shows is that today's empire is tomorrow's ashes, that nothing lasts forever, and that to not resist is to acquiesce in your own oppression. The greatest form of sanity that anyone can exercise is to resist that force that is trying to repress, oppress, and fight down the human spirit
Mumia Abu-Jamal

I'm not a political songwriter. I'm just an honest songwriter.
Billy Bragg

The artist must elect to fight for freedom or slavery. I have made my choice. I had no alternative.
Paul Robeson

Private capitalists inevitably control, directly or indirectly, the main sources of information. It is thus extremely difficult, and indeed in most cases quite impossible, for the individual citizen to come to objective conclusions and to make intelligent use of his political rights.
Albert Einstein

When I was coming up, it was a dangerous world, and you knew exactly who they were. It was us versus them, and it was clear who them was. Today, we are not so sure who the they are, but we know they're there.
George W Bush

If you're not angry
then you're just stupid
or you don't care
how else can you react
when you know something's so unfair
when the men of the hour
can kill half the world in war
or make them slaves to a superpower
and then let them die poor

Ani DiFrancour Out of range

Custom will reconcile people to any antrocity.
George Bernard Shaw

We are now making demands that will cost the nation something. You can't talk about solving the economic problem of the Negro without talking about billions of dollars. You can't talk about ending slums without first saying profit must be taken out of slums. You're really tampering and getting on dangerous ground because you are messing with folk then. You are messing with the captains of industry. ... Now this means that we are treading in difficult waters, because it really means that we are saying that something is wrong ... with capitalism ... There must be a better distribution of wealth and maybe America must move toward a Democratic Socialism.
Martin Luther King

...and I don't care how controversial it makes us. I won't tolerate being insulted. If you piss in my face I'm gonna call it piss. I'm not gonna call it rain.
Al Sharpton

To me the worst thing seems to be a school principally to work with methods of fear, force and artificial authority. Such treatment destroys the sound sentiments, the sincerity and the self-confidence of pupils and produces a subservient subject.
Albert Einstein

I will say, then, that I am not, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in any way, the social and political equality of the white and black races... I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race.
Abraham Lincoln

I hear Republicans and Libertarians and so forth talking about property rights, but they stop talking about property rights as soon as the subject of American Indians comes up, because they know fully well, perhaps not in a fully articulated, conscious form, but they know fully well that the basis for the very system of endeavor and enterprise and profitability to which they are committed and devoted accrues on the basis of theft of the resources of someone else. They are in possession of stolen property. They know it. They all know it. It's a dishonest endeavor from day one.
Ward Churchill

American consumerism is about buying things we don't need, with money we don't have, to impress friends we don't have time for.
Leo Horrigan

Technically this is an illegal strike
But technically workers have no rights

Billy Braggur Never cross a picket line

There is power in a factory,
power in the land
Power in the hands of a worker
But it all amounts to nothing
if together we don't stand
There is power in a Union

Billy Braggur There is power in a Union

Contrary to the received wisdom, global markets are not unregulated. They are regulated to produce inequality.
Kevin Watkins

A true war story, if truly told, makes the stomach believe.
Tim O'Brien

Peace is not simply the absence of conflict, but the existence of justice for all people.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
